SPIRAL KNIGHTS LORE

GREMLIN LORE

Gremlin Lore is by far the most popular form of Lore today in Spiral Knights.

KING TINKIZAR AND THE CRIMSON ORDER

King Tinkizar was around before the Skylark crashed onto Cradle. Tinkizar created the Clockworks, or at least the template of it. This does not mean King Tinkizar created Jelly Castle or Almire. He most likely created the overall layout of the Clockworks and most of the things. Gremlins in general, or 95% of all the gremlins, belong to the Great Colony, which is a mysterious resident area of gremlins. Whether or not it is a grand city of gremlins, or overall Clockworks is a mystery. Scattered gremlins doing devious work can still be found around the clockworks, in Deconstruction Zones. King Tinkizar is expected to be ancient, since he spent his whole life making the Clockworks. Tinkizar is also commonly known as the Architect, being the one who designed the clockworks. The King is also a mysterious figure and few has seen him. His personality and violence level is unknown. The King keeps a close company to him, called the Crimson Order, symbolized by a giant wrench surrounded by a gear. The Crimson Order, composes of 13 members. So far only three is revealed (Herex, Seerus, and Razwog).

Herex is most famous for creating his chaotic Compound 42, which failed in the end due to failed experiments with combining oil and poison into a obedient lifeform. The figure of Herex is not revealed until the mission A New Threat came out, when he steals the energy container. Herex wears a black mask, in overall black attire. His mask is a gas mask, most likely used for shielding himself from his own toxins. Herex also hides biological weapons up his sleeves. Whether they are poison or some kind of bacteria/virus is unknown. Herex is also hunched, perhaps to hide from his enemies. Herex is also known as the Whispering Venom, because he is depicted as a ninja as well as a mad scientist. He creates all the biological and chemical weapons for the Great Colony. Herex, like all the ruthless Crimson Order members, is proven to have no mercy. In Compound 42, he orders all the gremlins that worked there to be killed so the news of his failure in C42 would not get out, lowering his reputation. In Spiral Knights, many knights consider Compound 42 to be one of the hardest danger missions.

Warmaster Seerus is perhaps the most famous KNOWN Crimson Order member so far. Like Razwog, he is actually fightable. He resides in his fortress, which is heavily guarded by gremlins and turrets of all kind. Warmaster Seerus is well known for his Grand Arsenal, which supplies all the gremlin warriors of the Great Colony. Seerus also makes all the war plans against Haven and the Skylark Knights. He is commonly thought as the one who designed the Roarmulous Twins, machines built for the destruction of Haven. He uses two powerful weapons called Dark Retribution and Warmaster Hammer (5* names), which he uses to fight you in his boss battle.

Razwog is the Crimson Order member that wields a flamethrower. When he hears about new knights coming to Haven, he is nervous and fights you. He also tried to steal the module, but is taken back by you, which is again stolen by Herex in A New Threat. Razwog is perhaps the easiest Crimson Order member known to fight.

Other Crimson Order members tend to include types of gremlins that have not yet been categorized yet. Predicted other Crimson Order members could be a healer and a bomber. However, there are no 13 gremlin types for 13 members. So there are predicted unique members with special abilities.

CONFLICTS BETWEEN THE 13

In no way whatsoever are the 13 Crimson Order members friendly with each other. All the members constantly plot against each other and fear one day that another member will try and overthrow the other one. In fact, it is also predicted that some members even plotted against the King once. Seerus distrusts Herex the most in the Lore so far. Seerus literally has his Dark Retribution just to protect himself from other Crimson Order members or to attack them personally. Whenever something goes wrong, Seerus commonly blames Herex for all his problems and mistakes. It is also predicted that the 13 CO members aren't exactly whole, meaning some of the members already killed each other. It is also known that it is beyond Tinkizar's power to stop this conflict.

EMBERLIGHT

The town of Emberlight in the beginning of T3 Clockworks is a renegade town of gremlins. They are rejected by the Great Colony and now helps the Knights of Skylark. They are part of the 5% of gremlins that are not part of the Great Colony. Because they help the Knights, the Crimson Order members loathes the Emberlight gremlins. It may even be planned that the CO members will even attack Emberlight one day and kill all the renegade gremlins there.

ALMIRE LORE

VANADUKE AND ALMIRE

Vanaduke remains the most farmed boss to this day in Spiral Knights. But where did Vanaduke come from? Vanaduke was the Lord of Almire from the old days, in the days of the decline of Almire. Vanaduke was also in the last line of Kings that ever ruled Almire. It is thought in the last days of Almire, other kingdoms in existence at the time, invaded Almire and brought a end to its glory days. Vanaduke, ever so desperate to end the battle and save Almire, went to the legendary volcano (Name unknown) and jumped in, hoping to reincarnate as a empowered being to destroy his enemies. When he appeared out of the volcano, not only his power has grown a thousandfold of a normal Almirian, but also his personality has changed. In the end, through his iron fist, he destroyed the invaders of Almire. Unfortunately, what he did also cursed the kingdom of Almire. He lost control and became a cruel tyrant through his new personality.  Eventually everyone in his kingdom fled or was dead. He now retreats to his legendary cursed Firestorm Citadel, in which he is always in a mood for war, still believing Almire is still alive and all trespassers are only "wolves hungry for the blood of Almire".

THE LEGION OF ALMIRE

The danger mission Legion of Almire is based of one of the lost cities of Almire. The name of the original city is lost, but the city fought in was one of the most populated cities of Almire and is now called the Necropolis. The Necropolis (City of the Dead), was washed over by the curse and all those buried within are awakened in abnormal and dangerous forms. An army of undead awaits the poor knight that dares wander inside the Necropolis. It is said Almire had a feudal system and the Necropolis was originally ruled by a Lord appointed by an Almirian King to watch over the city. The codex of the Necropolis, the book at the end of the mission, is readable and is revealed to be the Lord's last entry in his book. The book states how the city had a tall tower that the Lord lived in. He said how he would love to go onto the balcony and see the cherry blossoms of Almire flutter down as he watched daily life in the Necropolis. The book states how he was sick of Vanaduke's rule and Almire was not like before, properous, full of trade and peaceful. He states about how the tower he loved is scarred by Vanaduke's cruel iron fist of ruling. Then he states how this will be his last entry. By the clues in the codex, the text suggests he committed suicide by jumping off his favorite tower.

OWLITES AND KATS

OWLITES

In SK Lore, not much is said about what the kats and the owlites look like, but most players like to imagine Owlites as bird mages that resemble owls in some way. (Perhaps a humanoid bird, feathery all over, with wings on back, wearing some kind of cloak and wielding a staff.) Most evidence pinpoints that Owlites and Kats had a very, very distant relationship in the past and somehow always in some kind of conflict. The prestigious magician birds own magic schools (Somewhat like Hogwarts), in which they try and teach young Owlites how to use and manipulate magic. These magic schools are called Candlestick Keeps now, due to the still bright burning candles that makes Grimalkins blind to its light. The owlites had different sets of armor in the past, in which three inspired sets of owlite armor still exist today. The Grey Feather set and the Divine set is most likely for owlite masters that like to value protection above all else. The Chaos set is very mysterious and is wondered whether owlites even used Chaos armor or not or some other species used Chaos armor. One thing for certain is that Chaos armor is certainly based on Owlite armor design. Perhaps the most legendary legacy Owlites have left behind are the Candles. The Candles are still very commonly found in Candlestick Keeps and in Owlite Manors. Somehow the candles revolve around some kind of magic that when a figure is standing inside the light, it makes grimalkins blind to the figure. When a grimalkin touches the light, it seems to run away, or in their case, disappear. Another long standing legacy of the Owlites are the magic books, or spell books. It is said these books are still hidden inside the abandoned keeps and not yet all destroyed by the Kats. The Owlites were possibly all exterminated in the genocide during the war with the Kats. However, whether one owlite still survives and is hidden within the deep depths of the Clockworks is a mystery that remains to this day.

KATS

In absolutely no way are current SK kats like the Cradle kats of the past. All players know exactly what the long ago Kats look like, because of Margrel's appearence, which is an original member of the Kat Tribe. Kats were most likely a combination of everything that is not magic, from gunner kats to sword kats to bomber kats. (Due to the three different kat sets today in SK.) The stereotypical view of a kat in the past is one color, or just purple and black. However, evidence from the kat sets states that there have been different colors of Kat Tribe members in the past, from which we know of, only purple, brown, white and light brown colors were discovered of Kats. Kats tend to be counted as one of the undead, which they are. Kats are indeed a form of reincarnated soul of some dead beast of any kind. Kats also tend to eat and devour and destroy all traces of Owlite existense, in a last ditch attempt to completely wipe out their ancient enemy. The descendants of the once great Kat Tribe, now mainly reside in the Owlite keeps, in an attempt to keep other entities from wandering in and knowing of Owlite existence.

MARGREL

Margrel was perhaps the most famous Kat Tribe member of all. Even though the Kats of the past do not tend to use magic that often, Margrel was perhaps a magic user, most likely some kind of necromancer. The Book of Dark Rituals was most likely created by the Kats in an attempt to copy Owlite spellbooks. The Book of Dark Rituals was also most likely created by Margrel himself. However, the Book of Dark Rituals was chaotic and nowhere as safe as the Owlite spellbooks. The Book of Dark Rituals was most likely created so that in case Margrel died or was banished somehow, one of his minions would summon him once again into Cradle to bring destruction. The most dramatic and important event was caused by Margrel, when he opened up the Book of Grey Feathers, stolen from the Owlites, for some kind of evil purpose. He brought about the Kataclysm, which, in recorded history, wiped out all the original Kat Tribe members and Owlites. Now it is foretold that one of his Black Kat minions has the Book of Dark Rituals...and is waiting for the right moment to reawaken the Kat Tribe Champion, wreaking again, destruction of war upon Cradle.
